After several years of challenges and perseverance, the City of Morden is pleased to share that we have identified a clear path forward for our new wastewater treatment system. Following extensive consultation and technical review of different treatment options with the Manitoba Water Services Board and leading engineering firms, Council has approved the decision to proceed with an innovative aerated lagoon wastewater treatment system in conjunction with a tertiary biological treatment process.
The proposed system will be designed to meet the stringent effluent criteria for nitrogen and phosphorus removal and provides an efficient and sustainable solution to meet the specific needs and circumstances of our growing community up to a design population of 20,300. The treatment lagoon cells will be covered with floating insulated covers to minimize the heat loss and odor emissions.
To support this project, the City has secured an option to purchase 80 acres of land adjacent to the existing site for the construction and future expansion of the new system. While we recognize there are still important steps ahead—such as securing funding support from all levels of government—we are actively moving forward with the preliminary design work and the Environmental Act licensing process.
City Council is committed to seeing this critical infrastructure project through. With a clear direction in place, we are advancing full steam ahead to bring all the necessary components together. This will ensure that Morden can continue to grow as one of Manitoba’s fastest-growing communities and provide the essential services our residents deserve.
We sincerely thank you for your continued patience and support throughout this journey.
