Event Volunteering

What is volunteering?

Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life, but people also volunteer for their own skill development, to meet others, to make contacts for possible employment, to have fun, and for a variety of other reasons that could be considered self-serving.

Volunteerism is the act of selflessly giving your life to something you believe, free of pay.

What are some of the things a volunteer can do?

  • Coach a team
  • Read to children
  • Raise money for charity
  • Care for the elderly
  • Run errands and do deliveries
  • Gather and analyze data
  • Do clean-up and repairs in the community
  • Care for animals
  • Stage concerts, plays and other cultural events
  • Protect the environment
  • Face painting!

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community and make a real difference?

Look no further than volunteering at our City of Morden community events!

Our community events are a huge part of what makes Morden such a great place to live, work, and play. And we couldn’t do it without the help of dedicated volunteers like you. By volunteering at our events, you’ll have the chance to meet new people, learn new skills, and contribute to the greater good of our community.

We need volunteers for a variety of tasks, from helping with event setup and cleanup to assisting with activities for children, like face painting, to serving food and beverages. No matter what your interests or skills are, we have an opportunity for you to get involved and make a difference.

Annual Events

Morden Winterfest

Morden’s Multicultural Winterfest is a community celebration of the wonderful richness of the cultures in our region as well as the great activities that we can enjoy during our Manitoba winters. This is a free festival open to everyone. Activities include outdoor boot hockey, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, bonfire, traditional foods and hot beverages, indoor crafts, dance demonstrations, cultural entertainment, refreshments, and much more. Come and enjoy an afternoon of winter fun with your neighbours old and new.

Arbor Day

Arbor Day is an annual event that promotes tree planting and appreciation of trees. In Morden It's celebrated in June, and it's always been a popular way for communities to come together to celebrate trees. In addition to being fun and inspiring, Arbor Day serves an important purpose: it helps us remember how important our environment is to our health and well-being. Trees are part of what makes Earth such a wonderful place!

Mental Health Week

The City of Morden coordinates events for Mental Health Week in the first full week of May. Even in times of extreme anxiety and stress, mental health is something we can protect, not just something we can lose.

Paddlefest

This annual event held in June gives everyone the opportunity to try our paddling sports for free! Canoes, Kayaks, Paddleboards, and Dragon Boats are available to try. Races are also scheduled and free to join, to bring out the competitive spirit.

Suncatch Sounds

Enjoy free live music with a cash bar throughout the summer at the Suncatch Courtyard outside the Pembina Hills Art Gallery. A variety of music styles are featured for all to enjoy!

Canada Day

Morden holds an annual Beach Blast at Lake Minnewasta for Canada Day. The afternoon includes a sandcastle building contest, face painting, food vendors, and enough flags and tattoos for everyone. Enjoy the water for a swim, or the sand to soak up sun. The evening brings a band on stage playing your favourites, followed by the national anthem and stunning display of fireworks over the lake.

Tree Lighting & Winter Parade

This event, held in November, is full of charm and holiday spirit. Santa arrives at the Civic Centre leading the Winter Parade and waves to all the people gathered to see him. On the street just outside you’ll find cozy bonfires, marshmallows and hot chocolate with holiday music in the background. The event ends with a tree-lighting countdown followed by fireworks.
