A heartwarming step toward fostering creativity and play among youngsters was marked by a generous donation of Lego sets to local daycares. The initiative was spearheaded by Councillor Gord Maddock, who collaborated with Chris and Melinda Abrams, the organisers of Lego Nights held at 500 Stephen Street Community Centre.
Following a conversation with Councillor Maddock, Chris and Melinda enthusiastically agreed to support the daycare centres with an ample supply of Lego sets. Councillor Maddock then reached out to Shauna Richards from the Morden Day Care, who wholeheartedly supported the idea. This collaboration extended beyond Morden, involving participation from daycares in Winkler, Pilot Mound, and Altona.
Councillor Maddock shared, “It is essential to nurture the creativity and development of our young minds, and Lego sets provide the perfect platform for imaginative play. I am sincerely grateful to Chris, Melinda, and Shauna for their enthusiastic support and cooperation in making this happen.”
Chris Abrams emphasised the importance of such initiatives, saying, “Lego Nights have always been about community and creativity. Extending this joy to local daycares will help children explore and build their creativity and problem-solving skills. The majority of the funds come from a group called Creations for Charity, with contributions added from the Manitoba Lego Users Group, while Melinda and I donated the equivalent to cover the sales taxes. Without the funds from Creations for Charity, we could not do what we do.”
The daycares have already started integrating the Lego sets into their play centres, and the children’s excited faces have spoken volumes about the success of this local initiative.
