Career Development Facilitator

Term: Full-time
Pay: $30,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience a year

In support of a federally funded workforce development project initiated by the
MCDC, and in partnership with Western School Division, this position shall facilitate
programming in support of career development for youth in the sectors of health,
technology and trades. Programming shall include, but not be limited to, support for
ongoing WSD Ready for Life programming, work experience related programs, and
employable skills training programs. The support for student placements from
existing and new programming, including post-secondary placements; support for
new programming which enables students to learn about career choices, gain
practical experience in the workplace; and develop new employable skills. This
support will come in the form of direct connections with employers, events which
introduce new skills and learning opportunities, creating new employable skills
training opportunities, and related activities. The successful candidate will also
support programming for a new community training center.


The Career Development Facilitator will report to the Economic Development
Officer and shall prepare reports for the MCDC board of directors monthly.

Term: 1 year contract with potential for renewal, commencing as early as June 1st, 2025
FTE – Part time (0.5 FTE) or full time (1.0 FTE), depending on availability.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate events which promote employable skills training, career development for youth, and connections with employers
• Coordinate student placements with employers, WSD, RRTVA and post secondary institutes
• Coordinate educational programming for a new community training center, including oversight of the center’s operations
• Facilitate guest speakers and presentations on careers to K-12 students and schools
• Facilitate student work tours of regional employers and initiate career exposure events
• Attend industry and sectoral specific career development professional learning opportunities to share with the community, gather information and report to WSD, RRTVA and MCDC as requested
• Connect with Services Canada and a secondary contact with Manitoba Education on updates and changes in regards to Career Development
• Monitor and report on career development opportunities
• Initiate research and track students as well as business/industry participation
• Liaise with local Chambers of Commerce and Junior Achievement to support programming opportunities
• Assist career development teachers with curricular outcomes from school based courses, project-based learning, community-based internships, entrepreneurial opportunities and career development activities to support student learning
• Review and recommend cost efficient career resources
• Assist with organization of student transportation
• Collaborate with regional stakeholders in support of program objectives
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary experience in any of the following fields: Education, Business Administration, Community Development, Human Resources, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work, Trades, Information Technology; Self motivation and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency with the use of technology for communicating and reporting
• Strong administrative skills (preparing reports and grant applications);
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience in Career Development, business, and community awareness with a strong familiarity with employers in the region
• Satisfactory Child Abuse, Criminal Record, and Vulnerable Sector Checks are required
• Must possess a valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a vehicle
• This is a non-teaching position, although knowledge of the education system is considered an asset
