PARKS AND URBAN FORESTRY – PARKS LEAD
Term: Full-time
Responsibilities:
• Inspect and maintain park asset inventory and infrastructure• Take initiative in the maintenance and improvements of municipal cemeteries
• Maintain and make improvements of park trails
• Take responsibility for turf maintenance, including turf establishment and irrigation systems
• Assist with plans for upgrades and new construction in parks
• Assist the Horticulture program – annual flower program, community gardens
• Assist the Arboriculture program – tree planting and maintenance, tree inventory work
• Provide field supervision and on-site training including safe work practices for seasonal staff
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of all Parks machinery and equipment
• Work in a team environment and work physically in a public setting.
Qualifications:
• Canadian Playground Inspection Certificate or Provincial equivalent or be willing to obtain• Knowledge of CSA standards for playground equipment
• Knowledge of Parks infrastructure maintenance and renewal
• Knowledge of insects and diseases threatening trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses
• Knowledge of ecological processes, bank stabilization and design
• Pesticide Applicators License or willing to obtain
• Experience and working knowledge sufficient to safely operate motorized equipment (skid steer, small tractor, RTV, truck and trailer)
• Knowledge to safely use hand-held manual and power equipment utilized in tree, turf and horticulture maintenance
• Work experience in the field of Urban Forestry and/or Horticulture is an asset.
• Fluent in English language skills to confidently function with both verbal and written instructions
• Class 5 Drivers License
