Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day 2024

Today, we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day! 🪶

The City of Morden takes immense pride in acknowledging that we are situated on Treaty No. 1 territory, the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, and Dakota Nations, and the heartland of the Red River Métis.

As we honour the contributions of the original caretakers of these lands, we reflect on the spirited heritage and the dynamic cultures that enrich our community. Their stories and stewardship of the land and water are the foundation upon which our city thrives. They have shaped our past, continue influencing our present, and are pivotal to our collective future.

To commemorate this significant day, we have Swan River elder David Scott share his wisdom and insights during Indigenous Peoples Day 2022. Let his words inspire us to have a deeper understanding and stronger connections.

Join us in celebration, reflection, and action.
