Cemetery Regulations

The following are the rules and regulations for all city cemeteries:

  1. All cemetery plots must be purchased at the Morden Civic Centre Office. Plots will be sold in sequential order, as determined by the Cemetery Committee.
  2. Cemetery plots may not be resold or transferred without the approval of the Cemetery Committee. Refunds, if approved, will be issued at the original purchase price.
  3. Grave covers and/or curbs made of concrete, fibreglass, or other materials are not permitted. Headstones made of natural stone may be used, with a maximum size of 3′ x 3′ and 4′ in height. Headstones must be placed on a concrete base, with the top of the base at ground level.
  4. The maintenance and repair of headstones are the responsibility of the deceased’s family.
  5. The location of purchased plots will be marked and staked by the Cemetery Caretaker prior to excavation.
  6. The cost of digging and closing the grave must be borne by those responsible for the deceased’s arrangements.
  7. Flowers and wreaths may be placed on graves, but no permanent shrubs, trees, or plantings are permitted.
  8. Grave stacking (i.e., two regular interments in one plot) is not permitted. One ash interment is allowed in the same plot as a regular interment, with an additional fee as stated in the fee schedule.
  9. Urns and cremation containers may be interred in a regular plot, with up to two interments allowed. An additional fee will apply for extra interments, as outlined in the fee schedule.
