Despite the recent weather forecasts predicting normal precipitation in Southern Manitoba in the coming months, the City of Morden is reminding residents that the area is still experiencing a moderate drought. The lake level at Lake Minnewasta is currently 5 feet 11 inches below full supply, and there has not been sufficient snowfall in the Lake Minnewasta watershed. This raises concerns about the lake reaching full capacity in the spring.
In order to ensure a sustainable future for our community, it is crucial that we continue our water conservation efforts. It’s important to remember that normal precipitation does not guarantee an end to the drought. We must remain vigilant and make water conservation a top priority.
Every drop of water counts, so we urge residents to be mindful of their water usage. Conserving water is a collective effort that can have a significant impact on preserving our precious resources.
For more information on conservation measures and to understand how you can save water during this drought, we encourage you to visit the Morden Drought Plan.
