Morden, MB — Treaty 1 Territory — The City of Morden celebrated a significant milestone today with the official unveiling of its new city seal (crest) and the launch of an updated city website. The ceremony took place at the Morden Civic Centre and was attended by local dignitaries, community members, and the media.
Almost two years in the making, the new official seal was developed through extensive consultations with local community groups, cultural organizations, and historical experts. The updated design reflects Morden’s heritage, growth, and vision for the future. It also incorporates meaningful Indigenous symbolism, honouring the land’s original inhabitants and reaffirming the city’s commitment to reconciliation and mutual respect.
“The unveiling of Morden’s new official seal is a proud moment for our city,” said Mayor Nancy Penner. “It honours our rich history while symbolizing a forward-looking, united community. We are equally excited to launch our redesigned city website, which will improve access to municipal services and showcase all that Morden has to offer.”
Swan Lake First Nation Elder Dave Scott, who was consulted for the inclusion of Indigenous elements in the seal, shared his thoughts:
“Having Indigenous symbols within the seal is acknowledging the Ojibwa teachings around obiimahdiizee (human beings first) and that there is a commitment to further our relationship going forward. This is a meaningful step in our shared journey of recognition, respect, and reconciliation.”
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew delivered remarks on behalf of the provincial government.
“This official seal represents all the great things that make Manitoba and Morden a great place to live,” said Premier Wab Kinew. “Whether it’s the great cultural events like the Corn and Apple Festival, icons like Bruce the mosasaur, or the important role Morden plays in our provincial economy, it’s great to see this all reflected in this new seal.”
The redesigned website, now live, features improved navigation, enhanced accessibility, and a modern look to better serve residents and visitors.
These new developments mark a step forward in Morden’s commitment to transparent governance and community engagement. The new seal and website both aim to foster a sense of pride among the citizens and enhance the way the city communicates and connects with its residents.
