Lake Minnewasta is a small lake in Morden, Manitoba enjoyed by many people with different interests. Boating is a privilege, and operators should be skilled and knowledgeable. For your safety and the pleasant boating experiences of other boat users, all operators need to follow the rules and regulations.
Operator’s responsabilities
- Electric trolling motors only. This is strictly an electric trolling motor lake aimed at people being able to enjoy fishing, and the safety for kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding.
- If your boat has a gas engine, props must be removed before being allowed on the water.
- You are required to have your Pleasure Craft Operator Card with you whenever you are operating your boat/watercraft.
- Please register your boat at the office and display your Lake Minnewasta pass on your trailer or tow vehicle.
- If you arrive before the front gate is open or after it is closed, please purchase your pass at the Campground Office.
- You are responsible for yourself, your boat(s), and your passengers.
- Please park your boat trailer and towing vehicle up top in the designated parking area at the entrance to the boat launch.
- If you are camping at Lake Minnewasta you may park your boat at your campsite. However, if your boat takes up space on a neighbouring campsite or roadway, you may be asked to relocate it to the parking lot by the boat launch area.
Gate Times
- Boat launch control gates open at 6:00 am and close at 11:00 pm.
- Boat launch control gates are closed at the discretion of Lake Management, for security, maintenance, water conditions quality, and/or public safety.
- When moving through the water, steer left of the boat launch area for the safety of those launching or loading.
- Larger craft must always yield to smaller craft.
- Please be respectful of all water users. Careless and dangerous boating is not tolerated. Reckless boaters will be reported to the local police, asked to leave and risk banning.
Watercraft Registration Form
To avoid delays, please ensure that all information is completed on the form.
As a considerable number of forms are rejected due to common, avoidable errors or omissions which will cause a delay in processing, please take the time to thoroughly complete the form. This greatly reduces the chance of errors that can slow down the registration process and access to your boat.
This form is also available at the Campground Office.
The watercraft registration form is to help reduce the risk of aquatic evasive species contamination. With zebra mussels now in Clear Lake as well, any equipment used in waters in Clear Lake or any lake east of the Red River must be decontaminated before coming to Lake Minneweasta.
*The City of Morden no longer permits any gas-powered watercraft on Lake Minnewasta.
Lake Minnewasta is renowned for Black Crappie fishing. Anglers can also catch northern pike, walleye, white sucker, and pumpkinseed.
If bringing a boat, be sure to follow Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) guidelines and note that only electric trolling motors are permitted.
Shore fishing is allowed throughout the lake except in designated swimming areas and near swimming docks.
No parking in the boat launch area unless you have an accessibility parking pass. Parking is allowed at the top, and you can walk down to fish. And remember, let’s keep Lake Minnewasta pristine by cleaning up after ourselves. A clean beach is a happy beach!
Lake Minnewasta is home to Splish Splash Morden, a privately operated floating obstacle course available during the summer months. Usage fees apply.
