The department consists of the Engineering Services Branch and Planning Services Branch.
The Engineering Services Branch oversees the design and construction of capital projects for water and wastewater treatment, water distribution, sewer collection, drainage, roads, sidewalks, facilities, trails, and open spaces. The department is responsible for:
Engineering is actively working towards our new asset management program which will help to properly maintain and plan for the replacement of existing infrastructure.
Engineering also provides GIS services and is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive mapping system that allows the city to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, reports, and charts about city infrastructure, land use, and city services.
The Planning Services Branch is responsible for:
The branch acts in accordance with city bylaws, policies, procedures, and regulations and relevant provisions of the Municipal and Planning Act of the Province of Manitoba.
The long-range planning activities include monitoring demographic and growth trends both locally and regionally. The branch prepares, updates, and amends planning documents and policies to guide development toward our desired future. The branch also coordinates with the MSTW update and implementation of the MSTW Development Plan.
The Current Planning includes approving development permits, issuing letters respecting compliance, processing subdivision applications, area concept plans, Land-use Bylaw amendments, and land-use changes, enforcing the city’s Land Use Bylaw, and coordination with MSTW on building permits and inspections. The branch manages land use in the city and ensures that building and renovation design meets the high-quality standards expected in Morden.
A Zoning By-law is needed to regulate and control the use and development of land and buildings within the Municipal limits of the City of Morden.
